Leaming Industries' MTS-2B stereo generator provide cable systems with a high quality means to transmit BTSC stereo TV audio. They can also be used for instructional TV systems and low-power TV stations, or as an economical unit for broadcasters. It generates a BTSC stereo composite multiplex signal from Left and Right baseband audio inputs and a video sync-lock pilot signal. The Left-minus-Right channel is companded using a dbx licensed compressor
For versatility in interfacing the generator with a TV modulator, all the MTS-2 series generators are standard with both a composite multiplex stereo output and a 4.5 MHz subcarrier (41.25 MHz optional) output with separable video and 4.5 MHz loop-throughs. Also, all controls are easily accessible from the front panel.
The built-in AGC is a stereo audio automatic gain control designed to maintain average program levels within a reasonable range without reducing the dynamic range to the extent that quiet passages are no longer quiet and loud passages are no longer loud. It includes a gated-gain low-distortion compandor with a fast attack and slow release. When the program level falls over 20 dB below normal, the compandor assumes that there is a pause in the program and holds its gain setting for 10 seconds. The compandor then slowly resets its gain to 0 dB. The AGC may be enabled by a front panel switch or remotely.
